We’ve scoured Europe to discover its sexiest hotels… vibrating rings, Champagne and more
Hotel Gotham, Manchester
No list of Europe’s sexiest hotels should appear without this sceney pad in Manchester’s grand Midland Bank building. You’ll be gagging to hang up the ‘Do not disturb’ sign when you enter its rooms with large headboards, furs, cocktail cabinets and intimacy kits of massage oils and vibrating rings.
De l’Europe, Amsterdam
One of Amsterdam’s grande dames, De l’Europe is about as envy-inducing as it gets, with opulence dripping in every nook and cranny. To really up the ante, spend a night in the hotel’s Provocateur Suite – from its magnificent circular bed to a bathtub for two and a starry ceiling of lights, the stage is set for a very romantic evening.
Cap Estel, Côte d’Azur, France
Smouldering with romantic potential, this place has all the crucial ingredients for a passionate weekend away. Private beach for strutting? Tick. Fabulous French food? Tick. Gorgeous infinity pool? Tick. And you’ll love the Junior Suites oozing Riviera glamour with their vast beds and private terraces opening to knockout views of the Med.
The Gore, London
Opulence reigns supreme at this upmarket hotel in Kensington. Every room is different, draped in heavy textiles, while the four poster beds will have you grinning from ear to ear. Make sure you pull up at pew at the hotel’s Bar 190 – not only is it a swanky spot to share a cocktail or two. It was the setting for the Rolling Stones’ Beggars Banquet album launch in 1968 – and it doesn’t get much more rock ‘n’ roll than that.
Malmaison Oxford
Lock yourself away at this former prison block turned luxe hotel. A destination in its own right and one of Oxford’s top-notch properties, its rooms are former cells, yet there’s nothing poky about them (rooms are three cells each). And while the original iron doors and vaulted ceilings remain, the rooms are far from back-to-basics with frills in the form of claw foot baths and huge beds.
The Scarlet, Cornwall
This stylish bolthole sets the chicest of scenes for an amorous escape. From its adults-only policy and cliff-top baths overlooking the ocean, to the rooms’ enormous beds, The Scarlet takes a bit of beating. The spa is world class too and a cosy haven to while away an afternoon with its lantern-lit treatment rooms opening to views over Mawgan Porth Beach – just make sure you make use of the couples’ treatment room.
Hotel Molitor Paris
It’s the outdoor swimming pool, at this avant-garde property, that’s the truly seductive star turn here. Originally opened in 1929, the pool was one of the most famous in Paris, where a star-studded raft of posers stretched out on its sidelines, and the bikini was launched in 1946. Today, its latest incarnation is of a swish hotel, with rooms of billowing white curtains and walk-in showers – a perfect spot for a romantic escape a deux.
11 Cadogan Gardens, London
Want to get laid in Chelsea? You’d better book one of the lavish Signature Suites at this decadent hotel, with gilt-edged mirrors and Murano glass chandeliers. And in time for Valentine’s Day, it’s offering a Romantic Package, which includes 100 red roses, a box of chocolates and a chilled bottle of Taittinger Champagne on arrival, plus breakfast the following day. If you’re looking for something as far from wholesome as possible – 11 Cadogan Gardens should fit the bill.
Rosa Alpina Hotel & Spa, Italy
You’ll want to linger for a very long time at this seriously luxurious retreat in the Dolomites. Think log fires, exposed beams, epic mountain views and Michelin-starred food. And what better way to fire up the passion than a night in the hotel’s Chalet Zeno with its outdoor sauna, Jacuzzi and private garden. Blooming lovely.
